[Travelogue] The Girls Trip To Bangkok.

This trip of mine to Bangkok was an impromptu arrangement, brought up during a night out with few of my close girl friends. Perhaps it was an easy deal casually flowing from the influence of alcohol, or maybe it was our first time travelling together as a group. I think it was more of the excitement from the latter. Like the title suggests, it was an all girls trip.

Nevertheless, all dates and plans considered, my air tickets were booked a few days after that and here are some background information on this trip.

Traveling Dates:
19 May 2017 - 23 May 2017 (Exchange Rate RM/THB: 12.70)

On Air Tickets
I flew via Air Asia and booked my air tickets 3 weeks prior to departure, at RM272, with no additional check-in luggage. There were no ongoing promotion at that point in time.

On WiFi Devices
I booked my WiFi device through Travel Recommends, which gave me unlimited WiFi for an affordable RM19/day. I picked up the device before my departure, at Tune Store, in KLIA2.

On The Agenda:
This is probably my 5th or 6th time to Bangkok.
Supanniga Eating Room | Iron Fairies | Mocking Tales | Toby's On Sukhumvit 38 | Union Mall | Ratchada Train Market | Route 66 | Luka Cafe | Talad Neon Night Market | Jeh O Chula | Ootoya Japanese Restaurant | After You Dessert Cafe | Siam Square | Central World

On My Previous Bangkok Travelogue:

And here's my story.....

I have probably repeated this part of my experience numerous times and to many of my friends.

It was my first time (ever) waiting for a cab (not a flight) at the airport for 3 freakin' hours. The queue for public taxis were outrageously long and the handful of GRAB & UBER rides that I requested, had arrival times which repeatedly (note - repeatedly) fluctuated between 15-30 minutes. My rides were not even close to being in sight.

Having said all of that - not letting the Friday evening downpour and traffic woes get to me, I calmly waited for my ride before arriving safely at my friend's place, in Silom, some 3 hours later. Testing my patience at master black belt level.

Reminder to self - avoid taking Friday evening flights. On a side note, standard cab rates from Don Muang International Airport (DMK) to Bangkok City, is about THB350.

Suppaniga Eating Room
28 Soi Sathron 10 Silom, Bangrak, Bangkok 10500
+66 2 635 0349
Monday to Sunday 11.30am-2.30pm. 5.30pm-11pm.

Dinner was at Supanniga Eating Room, a Thai restaurant which I've visited in the past, and would not hesitate to revisit again. I was very surprised to have bumped into a colleague while I was there too. It was indeed, a small world after all.

Iron Fairies
55 Khlong Tan Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok, Thailand.
+66 99 918 1600
Monday to Sunday 6pm-2am.

A little later, we dropped by Iron Fairies, Thonglor for drinks. Now, I'm not a live band person, but the live band playing, was bona fide entertaining. The other speakeasy bar that I have visited before in Thonglor was Rabbit Hole, located within the same vicinity. For me, Iron Fairies wins hands down.

Mocking Tales
148 G Floor, The Maze Thonglor, Soi Thonglor 4, 10110 Bangkok.
+66 83 386 6992
Monday to Sunday 11am-1am.

Like my previous trips to Bangkok, my agenda mostly revolved around places to eat, and sometimes visiting certain tourist hotspots. There's always some place new to visit. Thanks to the unceasing recommendation by one of my friends - Mocking Tales, Thonglor was one of it.

The ambiance and menu at Mocking Tales felt - magical. The interior reminded me of Harry Potter, and the presentation of food was note only bold and loud, but all of which were surprisingly delicious. This meal was an interesting inclusion to my agenda this time round - and I'd highly recommend.

We shared the Baked Potato & Souffle with Bacon (THB280), Fried Chicken Sandwich (THB250) and Ice Cream, Dark Chocolate & Flaming Cantreau (THB480). All of which I really enjoyed.

After a more than fulfilling lunch break, we decided to take a short stroll to the next designated location. Along the way, we walked pass a mango fruit shop - an apparently popular one too. Despite the ongoing influx of food, we bought a serving of mango sticky rice to share.

Toby's On Sukhumvit 38
77 Sukhumvit 38 Alley, Khwaeng Phra Khanong, Khet Khlong Toei, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10110 Bangkok.
+66 2 712 1774
Tuesday to Sunday 9am-10.30pm. Closed Monday.

The walk to Toby's On Sukhumvit 38 was one of the most eventful one (or I'd say necessary) I've had in awhile. Long story cut short - we got lost; we had to walk through a construction site; we spend triple the amount of time to get there. The inconvenienced was beyond far-fetched.

Nevertheless, we got there, all sweaty, clearly dehydrated and couldn't wait to quench our thirst. The Fairy Floss (THB280) dessert was not only beautiful to look at but tasted pretty delectable also. The Smoothies (THB150) too, were undoubtedly a refreshing treat.

Union Mall Bangkok
Ladprao Soi 1, Bangkok Thailand (nearest BTS Phahon Yothin)
Daily 11pm-10pm.

Enough of the eating. We dropped by Union Mall just to look-see after that. Prices here are a little more competitive than that of Platinum Fashion Mall, though much more limited selection wise. Instead of going shopping, we ended up having Swiss roll - a really expensive yet mediocre one too, at Kyo Roll. Avoid at all cost!

Ratchada Train Night Market
How to go to Ratchada Train Night Market by train: BTS Thailand Cultural Center
Thursday-Sunday 5pm-1am.

The trip to Ratchada Night Market was a bit of a rush - no, a hell of a rush. Despite being behind time and having a drinking meetup to adhere to later on that evening, we really didn't have much time to spare at the night market. Plus, traffic was horrendous and it took us way longer than expected to arrive. Tip: Take the train.

After all of the hassle, I have to be honest that I didn't quite enjoy my visit here. The place was extremely crowded, hot and sweaty and I didn't spot anything worthy of buying. We grabbed quick dinner (some light snacks and a plate of pad thai that was just way too wet and sweet for my liking), before making a move back home.

While the night market was not my cup of tea, it is a popular hangout spot for our fellow Malaysians. For first timers - I would still highly recommend dropping by.

Route 66 Bangkok
66 Rama IX Soi 8, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, 10310 Bangkok Thailand.
+66 2 203 0834
Daily 8pm-2am.

We rushed home, showered, got ready, head to Route 66 RCA for drinks, and met up with a few other friends of mine. We got home at 6am the next day.

Luka Cafe Bangkok
64/3 Pan Rd, Khwaeng Silom, Khet Bang Rak, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10500, Bangkok Thailand.
+66 2 637 8558
Weekdays 10am-7pm. Weekends 9am-7pm.

The next morning, one of my friends had a flight to catch back to Singapore. I woked up early but managed to snag some snooze time after that. I woke up at slightly pass lunch time, famished, and couldn't wait to head out for some food.

We dropped by Luka Cafe Bangkok, Silom. I thought the Luka Breakfast Burrito (THB310 - with a whole lot of healthy elements) and Freshly Pressed Juice (THB140 - very diluted) was just about alright, although I felt that prices were exceedingly steep here. Nevertheless, I was glad that I had a really stuffed meal, because dinner was at 11pm that evening - all planned out like that.

Talad Neon Night Market Bangkok
1087 Khwaeng Makkasan, Khet Ratchathewi, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10400, Bangkok Thailand.
Daily 4pm-12am. Closed Monday & Tuesday.

Sometime after sunset, we dropped by Talad Neon Night Market. Like what I previously mentioned in my initial visit, there weren't much to explore and do here. We slurped on watermelon slushies and talked about the misdemeanors from the night before - mostly as little distractions from our growling stomach.

Jeh O Chula
113/1 Soi Charat Mueang, Khwaeng Rong Muang, Khet Pathum Wan, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10330, Bangkok Thailand.
+66 81 682 8815
Daily 5pm-1am.

Having supper at Jeh O Chula (TomYum Mama) was probably one of the most anticipated part of my trip.

While there's always a queue upfront (which probably entailed a 30-45 minute wait), the overall experience was clearly worth the hype. Food was affordable and scrumptious. Plus, the company that I was with - was simply a blessing of blissfulness. On my future visit, I'd like to come back.

The menu's designed to be shared. We ordered the Tom Yum Hotpot (THB250 - available from 11pm-2am only - highly recommended!), Garlic Kangkung (THB50), Grilled Pork (THB160 - highly recommended!), Spicy Squid (THB100) and Pork Meat Egg (THB50).

The next day was a Free & Easy one for me, with literally no specific agenda planned. Apart from meeting up with a friend for a lunch excursion, the mission was to explore Bangkok at my own free will, and going along with whatever plans that flowed my way.

Lift OOTD!

OOTOYA Japanese Restaurant
Siam Paragon Shopping Mall
Daily 10am-10pm.

We grabbed lunch at OOTOYA Japanese Restaurant, Siam Paragon and spend the next hour or so strolling around Siam Square. We talked about many things, deliberating on topics relating to work, relationships (like how niche my market really is!) and just reality in general - sometimes I forget how similar we are.

After our brief yet very meaningful tryst, my friend left back for work. To be honest though, after my previous rendezvous in Siam (with my best intentions to introduce), there's literally nothing new that excites me here anymore. Time to expand my travel radar some place else.

In the next hour or so, I unhurriedly inched my way towards a massage parlor, where I peacefully lazed the next few hours away. I'm quite obsessive when it comes to massages and this was the only massage therapy I had in this trip.

I patiently waited for two of my friends to arrive before having dessert after that - at a cafe which I wasn't quite fond of.

After You Dessert Cafe (Siam Square One)
991 Rama 1 Road, Khet Pathum Wan, 10330, Bangkok Thailand.
+62 271 29266
Daily 11am-12am.

I have never really enjoyed my visits to After You Dessert Cafe (to date - I've visited the outlets at Siam Square One, Siam Paragon and Thonglor - my verdict remains), but never seemed to shy away from, every time I visit Bangkok. There's always that one friend, who's eager to try.

We had the Baby Shibuya Toast (THB175) and Mango Sticky Rice Kakigori (THB265). After You please.

Central World
How to get to Central World by train: BTS Siam or Chidlom
Daily 10am-10pm.

We spend the rest of the evening aimlesly tripping from one spot to another, from Siam Paragon to Central World then Big C. In view of the lack of luggage space (no check-ins), I decided to skip my mandatory snack shopping at Big C this time round.

For dinner, we grazed on a variety of deep fried pork and pomegranate juice (widely popular in Bangkok), that we purchased at a small night market outside of Central World.

I slept well that night and woke up before sunrise the next morning. It was time to go home.

While most would resent taking early morning flights - I love it. Two reasons - the chances of a flight delay was slimmer (logically speaking, as the day progress, the built-up of delayed flights would be unavoidable), plus, going through customs and immigration was a breeze. It took me a mere 15-minutes to get from the departure gate to the boarding gate - like a champ.

I departed from Don Muang International Airport at 8.30am, and arrived in KL slightly before lunch time, leaving me with plenty of time to recuperate from my post-holiday blues - yes, sleep recovery was highly essential.

One thing about my Bangkok holidays though - the weather don't ceased to get the best of me. I always fall sick after my short trips, be it breaking out from the dust in the air, drying out from the change of weather and humidity, dehydration from the sun and lack of water, and the weakening of my immune system from the lack of sleep. I will definitely be back but seriously?
