Harms' done - I've stopped using the product indefinitely, and have since been using KO's skincare products only. Now, apart from a few active acne, the rest have subsided and I'm left with red marks on the skin.
Consequently, I went for a series of Dual Yellow Laser Acne Treatments as well as Acne Facial Treatments at KO Skin Specialist. I havn't said this enough, but I'm very grateful for the help I've gotten.
There're two parts to the Dual Yellow Laser Acne Treatment - Dual Yellow laser (destroys bacteria and reduce the production of sebum) and Dual Yellow light (rejuvenation).
How does the treatment work?
The yellow light from the Dual Yellow laser destroys the P Acne bacteria, and shrinks the sebaceous gland to reduce the production of sebum. The Dual Yellow laser is the only laser which uses photodynamic therapy to destroy bacteria, without damaging surrounding tissue. It does this by activating Proto Porphyrin 9 (PPIX) which exists in P Acne bacteria. PPIX is light sensitive at 578nm.
This treatment helps in reducing active acne and speeds up healing time of existing acne.
How many treatment is required?
You need to consult with your clinician for an exact treatment plan. Acne can be effectively controlled with 4 treatments, one week apart. The entire treatment lasts 60 minutes, including 30 minutes of mask therapy. One session costs Rm800.
After going through the same treatment, 3 times, varying between 6-10 days apart from each other, here are some before-after pictures.
The laser treatment managed to control the growth of acne and pimples on my cheek area, especially those large and painful bumpy red ones that are about to pop. It also controlled sebum production and hence, reduced the bacteria formation which causes acne. In other words, my skin felt less oily. Having said that, it does not prevent the growth of new acne, which varies depending on a person's skin.
Unlike carbon laser treatments or yag light laser treatments, only the acne spots are treated here and not the entire face. You may feel a pinch when the laser beam penetrates into the skin.
My recommendation? I'd recommend this treatment to those who already have minor or breakouts under control already, and have post-acne marks to clear. The treatment is suitable for all skin types.
In this facial, extraction was imperative - to get rid of congested pores, blackheads and whiteheads. For me, this step usually takes up at least half an hour.
The other vital step to this facial would be the use of salicylic solution to clear and prevent new pimples and acne. Two layers was brushed on to my skin, immediately post extraction. I have to be frank here - it stings, badly. Having gone through that, my skin felt clean and clear.
Post facial, you may experience some dryness, particularly on the nose area. For me, I applied an additional layer of moisturizer during the day, and had sleeping mask on every alternate night, for one week.
My recommendation? A great monthly maintenance facial for those who have acne prone skin.
I'd also like do a quick beauty shoutout since many of you have been asking me on how good Dr. KO's products fair on my exceedingly sensitive skin.
In my earlier visit, I picked up another tub of KO Dermacare Aqua Hydrating Moisturizer I, my favorite product of the range. If this works on my exceedingly tofu-skin, I'm sure it will do well on everyone elses too.

Do you opt for dual light treatment personally or being suggested by the doctor? I have the same problem like u but the doctor ask me to consume a medications without explaining about this dual light therapy..

DeleteI was advised to go for the medication initially also. I decided against that because I've taken the medication before about a year back and didn't want to do another dose again. So the dual light treatment is basically the second choice available. Having said that, I think the medication would yield better results compared to the light treatment. Hope this helps =)
ReplyDeleteWhat causes acne:
- Bad foods. This is important! These foods induce acne because they're acid/mucus forming and cause the immune system to become weakened. The body does not know how to digest and utilize them properly, so instead, it pushes the toxins out through the skin causing buildup and then spots. One must eliminate ALL of these foods if one wants beautiful clear skin. There is NO exception. If I eat these things I breakout, and I'm absolutely positive that others that suffer with acne do as well. It's that simple. So here they are: Dairy, gluten, processed sugar, too many nuts, alcohol, caffeine, fried foods, and processed foods.
- Lack of water. I never drank water the way I do now, and that was a big problem. The body cannot function correctly without proper amounts of water, specifically the organs. So of course this affects the skin, which is the largest organ of them all.
- Lack of sleep. Not just enough sleep, but quality sleep. I didn't know that it was so important, and that it's the most critical time for healing. So without this sleep the body cannot, and will not, heal properly. Evening gaming, late-night movies, school work, or unfinished art projects are never worth staying up for. I found this out the hard way, so get it done during the day.
- Stress. This can be the cause of almost any issue, including breakouts. Stress actually irritates the skin which can lead to redness, blotchiness, and even more sebum production which then can cause acne. It truly affects every cell in your body. I spent way too much time fretting in front of the mirror, which only made matters worse.
- Lack of exercise. Not moving is one of the most taxing things on the body. Unhealthy individuals actually have less blood vessels in the skin and therefore the body doesn't get it's much needed oxygen. Not going outside in the sun too is problematic because insufficient sun makes skin dull and takes longer to heal.
- Environment. Over showering daily with hot water, touching one's face, sports gear, cell phones, makeup, dirty pillowcases, etc. are all things that may actually cause breakouts if the preceding issues haven't been addressed. A weak body may not be able to handle these things. So they could also become a problem, but are not a definite cause like the other factors listed over.
So now that we know that we're not doomed by genes, age, or gender, here are some things to help combat acne and get rid of it for good.
