Stepping into Le Chou Chou Cafe - sparked joy. I was greeted with a wall-full of cakes in bubbles, smack right at the entrance. Big cakes, small cakes, customised cakes, they have it all here.
This cozy little spot is also Pet-friendly, so if you have a chou chou, chow chow, hua hua or poo poo, feel free to bring your little family member for a stopover. I'm pretty sure only small pets are allowed indoors, but there is also a seating area outside, if you prefer.
Spotted : A veryyyyy cute and well-behaved poodle.
Now, let's move on to the food.
Cakes are clearly the most popular food item here, however they're also known for their array of Homemade Pastries, Hot Food and Coffees. The menu may not be extensive, but I reckoned it's good enough to go around for those wanting to grab a quick bite or for some tea time pleasures.
The food coming out of the kichen looked good, and here's what I had.
The Hot Houjicha Latte (RM17.00) was amazeballs. Earthy, nutty, smooth and mildly toasted, made with the ever popular Niko Neko Matcha. Every sip felt warm and calming, maybe I should've ordered another cup to takeaway after. Anyhow, maybe next time.
On the other hand, my experimental taste of the Espresso Orange (RM18.00) felt a little off-balance and came off a tad too sour for my liking.
Do you need a good and warm cup of coffee to kickstart your meal? I definitely do.
Moving on to the main course. The hot food menu here mainly consist of Salads, Sandwiches and the classic Big Breakfast.
I enjoyed the Smoked Salmon with Eggs Benedict (RM38.00). Predictable, but nicely done. Smoked salmon (i love smoked salmon) and two perfectly poached eggs on homemade sourdough toast, smothered with Hollandaise.
There's just something about popping a perfectly done poached egg that gives me so much satisfaction. This, was definitely a delicious start.
Next, I tried the second most popular sandwich in the menu - Creamy Chicken Sandwich (RM28.00), which I also enjoyed but not as much as the former. Beneath the slice of torched cheese, creamy chunks of tender, grilled chicken piled high.
I also got to pick the type of bread to go with my sandwich, I went with the Ciabatta & Italian Focaccia, which was lightly toasted, had toothsome textures, and hints of herby taste to it. You can also pick from either the housemade Sourdough or Rex Milano breads.
As for something at the side to share, the Greek Salad (RM28.00) was a refreshing surprise. The colorful bowl of salad consisted of fresh and crisp greens, mangoes, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, olives and onions, to name a few. This salad may not be to everyones' fancy, but I'd definitely enjoyed it all in all.
After I was done with my savory courses, I naturally moved on to the sweet ones, and - also saving the very best for last.
The cakes here was definitely appealing to the eye.
And the Strawberry Shortcake (RM28.00) was my clear favorite. Made with fluffy and airy sponge cake, layered with cream that was not overly sweet, and topped with fresh strawberries. This was such an indulging treat, I think I can finish the entire 3" cake on my own. Yum.
The Mango Coconut Cream Cake (RM21.00), which was equally tempting - creamy, fruity and smooth.
If you're looking for Cafes that serves Cakes in the Bandar Sri Manjalara or Kepong KL area, be it for takeaway or dine-in, or looking to Customised your own Cakes in the PJ or KL area, I'd recommend dropping by Le Chou Chou Cafe.
