Ramadan Buffets 2019 In KL And PJ

In the past month or so, I attended a handful of Ramadhan Media Previews, where I got sample buffet-loads of traditional Malay food, some of which I really liked, and some of which could've been better.

In this List :

1. Tonka Bean Cafe & Deli, Impiana KLCC Hotel KL
2. Vasco's, Hilton KL
3. The Living Room, The Westin KL
4. Shook! Feast Village, Starhill Gallery by JW Marriott KL
5. Makan Kitchen, DoubleTree by Hilton KL

This list is not final. I will be building on to the list when more coverage comes in. Stay tune.

Hence, in no particular order of preference, here's a list of what I thought would be some of the best Ramadan Buffets in KL and PJ, all and about Klang Valley, that I've compiled for 2019. I did heaps of eating and probably gained a kilo or two along the way. Happy tummy and Happy reading 😊

1. TONKA BEAN CAFE & DELI, IMPIANA KLCC HOTEL KUALA LUMPUR

Theme : Selera Serantau
Price : RM148+ (Adult) RM74+ (age 6-12) Early bird specials - 30% off now till 21 April 2019
Food : 6/10
Variety : 6/10
Ambiance : 6/10

Another Friday treat. Here, again, the Sup Gearbox Meletup! (generous, humungous bones compared to the rest) was the highlight. Apart from that, I enjoyed the Kari Kepala Ikan Selatan, one of the favorites here, and also the beef brisket and chicken kebab selections. Drinks and desserts were surprisingly good too - the coconut and sugarcane water was a treat, not forgetting the unlimited servings of Baskin Robbins ice cream. Durian is also part of the buffet.

Kickstaring my Ramadhan Buffet streak at Vasco's this year. The feast was inspired by regal favorites of the royal families, with over 300 dishes in display. Highlights for me - Kerabu Daging Salai Putera Beradu, Daging Masak KerutupPemanis Mulut Adinda, to just name a few. Dinner was accompanied by Silat and Gamelan music.

Five offerings that stood out here - 6-Hours Braised Beef Short Ribs (served in a trolley cart, right to your table - these were fantastic), Gear Box Soup (aka sup tulang or cattle bone soup), Durian Kampung, Air Zam Zam (first time I had 'blessed water' at a Ramadhan buffet), and the Ice Cream spread (the selection of flavors were very well done).

I really enjoyed the traditional dishes, all of which I thought were done really well, especially the assortment of grilled ikan panggang (something a little different compared to the rest). Some hits and misses on the desserts however. Also to note, the buffet spread was centered around Malay cuisine only.

The biasness remains - Makan Kitchen is still decks one of the best Ramadan Buffets in town. Plenty of Malaysian delights served here - Kambing Golek, Murtabak, Roti John, etc - the pasar malam favorites. I particularly enjoyed the seafood spread - fresh live prawns, scallops, oysters and the lots. There were a couple of really interesting dishes here that I didn't see in any of the other Ramadhan buffet spreads - durian puffs (which I love), honey teh tarik (which was great) and also the grilled fresh seafood.
