Shin Nihon Japanese Restaurant @ Sri Hartamas KL - My Love For Yakiniku.

Unleashing my love for Japanese barbecue, or what they call, Yakiniku.

Everyone who knows me, knows, that I am a huge-huge fan of Korean barbecue. Japanese barbecue though - I really don't come across very often. Having Japanese skewers and such may be a norm, but grilling my own meat, was definitely something rare.

On that note, I have heard plenty of delicious things about Shin Nihon Japanese Restaurant, namely on it's yakitori specialities, and mostly on it's great cuts of Japanese wagyu.

That evening, I ordered their signature charcoal grilled meat to share, alongside a serving of rice and sake.

To start things off, I had the Thick Cut Tongue (RM35.00). It took a quick 3-minutes to grill, and let me tell you this - the two chunks of tongue were amazing. It had great textures that was fatty yet flavorsome. I'd highly recommend ordering this here.

Cook your own wagyu. The Premium 4 Cuts (RM160/200gm or RM320/400gm - this is the 400gm serving) came with an assortment of Wagyu cuts - Zabuton (chuck flap), Kainomi (flap meat), Kata Rosa (chuck eye roll) and Tomobara (brisket), each having it's own texture and character. My favorite cut? The Zabuton. Remember my incredible Japanese steak experience at Torii? This was a reflection of that.

You'd also get to pick from two flavors, either Pink Salt or Yakitori. I had one half of each. For me, I preferred the Pink Salt over the latter, simply because the wagyu was already a great meat cut, hence it was naturally flavorful on it's own, and really didn't need that added sauce. The yakitori was a tad too sweet for my liking.

Last but not least, Ishiyaki Bibimbap (RM16.00), that was merely secondary to the highlights of my meal.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10. For a great Japanese barbecue experience, offering a good selection of wagyu cuts. They also take table bookings and valet parking for diners are available (claims to be free but the jockey asks for tips). Shin Nihon is going into my top favorites for the year.
