Makhan! By Kitchen Mafia @ Petaling Jaya - British? Or Indian?

Run by the same folks behind Hello by Kitchen Mafia, Makhan by Kitchen Mafia is their newest food venture, that is comfortably tucked in The Gasket Alley, situated right next to Jaya One. There are two sections to their menu - one for all-things-British, and the other for Northern Indian cuisine, a rather uncommon, but not exactly a surprising combination.

To be very honest, my taste-buds are not quite familiar with Indian cuisine at all. Hence that afternoon, I chose curry, and eating with my bare hands, over fish and chips and pie. Obviously I needed to eat more Indian food to get to know the cuisine better right?

Being my first time there, I asked for recommendations, and here are some of the top picks.

I was extremely excited to try the Mutton Curry (RM28.00), and it was mouthwatering. The dish had strong flavors; the mutton was tender; the gravy rich, savory yet not too spicy. Please have a tissue in hand!

The Chicken Tikka Masala (RM23.00) was equally enjoyable, though obviously not as memorable as the mutton, and a little sweeter in taste compared to the former.

For those unfamiliar with this traditional Indian green-looking dish of Palak Paneer (RM21.00) - essentially a vegan dish made out of cubes of cheese, pureed spinach (hence the color), herbs and spices. Now, I'm not a huge fan of this to begin with, and I thought Makhan's version could do with better consistency.

Saving the best for last! The Rosemary Naan (RM8.00) and the Garlic & Herb Naan (RM8.00) was a winner. The flatbread was served hot, fluffy and had great textures. Best eaten with fingers, dipped in sauces at the side.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10. The food was nothing fancy but a decent feed, tucked in a cozy environment. If you are looking for a slightly more 'atas' place to have Indian food, and with zero parking worries, Makhan! would be the right pick.
