Mad Hatter Desserts by MasterChef Asia Runner-Up Marcus. Like To Dislike?

The past couple of weeks have been a blurry faze for me, mostly perturbed by a very stubborn on-and-off flu bug, alongside a handful of celebrations and outings, which kept my weekends at it's peak. I seriously need an immunity booster - and a time machine.

Regardless, my ongoing quest for new and good food continues.

It was 4pm, tea time on a sunny Saturday, when I dropped by Mad Hatter Desserts, situated within the heart of Damansara Uptown.

At barely a few weeks old, this new dessert parlor have gathered quite a bit of a hype - it was bustling with dessert purveyors, leaving barely any desserts behind - literally. Frankly speaking, with a supposed closing time of 10pm, I was very surprised at the rationing of desserts on display. Nevertheless for me, I got the best of the last, before they sold out and closed, at 5pm.

I have to note too, that Mad Hatter Desserts came with a reputation. Spearheaded by MasterChef Asia runner-up, Marcus Low, who is known for his immaculate dessert-making skills, I was exceedingly excited to try out some of his expertly handcrafted desserts. Admittedly also, I'm a fan of the MasterChef franchise and so was my mum - a hopeless addict. Reminder to self: I have to bring my mum here one day.

Reiterating from above, there were barely any desserts left (four limited variations to be exact) and not much to pick from.

I ordered two desserts to share.

The Raspberry Rose & Lychee (RM17) was a pleasure to devour and really - just too beautiful to eat. Beneath - graceful layers of raspberry mousse, rose and lychee ganache, raspberry jelly and sponge cake. There was no denying that rose and lychee to be a harmonious combination.

The Watermelon & Assam Tart (RM15) on the other hand, didn't exactly lived up to the already high expectations. For me, the assam boi curd (which I thought was way too sweet), alongside the assam soaked sponge cake, watermelon slice and mint flavored jelly, combined with the dense tart base - had textures which I found unappealing and a struggle to slice through. If only the tart base was replaced with some other type of pastry, I reckoned the dessert would be worth the twist.

Overall Rating: 7/10. Like To Dislike? For now, I'd say Like. I will certainly return to sample some of their other delicate desserts. Tip: Come early or be disappointed.
