It was a rather quiet evening at APW Bangsar. The warehouse of abandoned printing machineries and artworks now felt a little eerie, being just footsteps away from the entrance. The sudden drizzle too, added on to the mood.
Breakfast Thieves, the usual crowd-puller, was already closed for the day, leaving the rest of the smaller restaurants to play. I was pleasantly surprised to see Kaiju playing it strong during dinner time, with what seemed like a neverending line of hungry patrons waiting outside.
After trying almost every single restaurant in APW (apart from Pulp), that evening, I was there to cross Proof off my list.
Proof Pizza + Wine serves artisanal, wood-fired gourmet pizzas.
Needless to say, I had a great time catching up with my friend, over truffle and pizzas of course. No wine for us both unfortunately.
The Umbrian Black Truffle Pizza (RM32.00/8" & RM48.00/12" - this is the 8" version) was not only fragrantly appetizing but also tasted marvelous on every mouthful. The mixed mushroom and black truffle paste blended hamoniously with the rich and gooey taleggio. I'd highly recommend.
This Carne (RM29.00/8") came highly recommended by the waitress, but it really wasn't my fancy. The pizza came with house blend tomato sauce, mozzarella, pecorino romana, pancetta coppata, cherry tomatoes, minced lamb and slices of salami on top. The meat had a strong gamey aftertaste that I didn't quite like.
The other thing I found quite tiring to eat was the chewy pizza dough. The base was nicely toasted no doubt, but the edges were just way too dense and chewy to slice through with a fork and knife. My jaw muscles had a good amount of exercise throughout dinner.
Overall Rating: 7/10. I will probably only return for the Umbrian Black Truffle Pizza. Personal preference - I still prefer the crisp thin crusts ones.
