My Top 5 Favorites @ Maple Food Market, Great Eastern Mall KL

I have always had a distinct preference towards homemade goodies, be it for food & drinks, or arts & crafts.

The Maple Food Market is an artisanal food market, held 3 times a year (March, July and November) at Great Eastern Mall, and aimed at promoting homegrown chefs and independant businesses, to get creative and to spread the artisanal message on their homemade products.

This time round, there were 30 participating independant Food and Beverage merchants, each showcasing an interesting array of natural beauties and homemade goodies - hot food, natural fruit spreads, organic teas & juices, pastries & desserts, arts & crafts.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the event. There were plenty to eat and see!

Here are some of the highlights and My Top 5 Favorites of the event.

Amrita Kefir and Kombucha are probiotic health drinks containing beneficial enzymes, acids, bacterias and yeasts along with easily digestible sugars, vitamins and minerals, aimed to aid digestion and stomach health.

I was first introduced to kefir by a friend of mine not long back, and have been a regular consumer ever since. It's not easy to find kefir-makers in the Klang Valley, let alone one that does it so well. I sampled all 5 of Amrita's kefir that afternoon - Awesome Original, Beautiful Berry and Jamu Green Tonic Water Kefir. My favorite? Lucious Lychee Water Kefir (RM10.00/300ml bottle) and Jamu Kunyit Tonic Water Kefir (RM12.00/300ml bottle). I'd recommend kefir as an alternative to off the shelf probiotic supplements.

OLFAC3 specializes in perfumary and custom fragrances, that is inspired by nature, people, places, and the beautiful diversity of Malaysia.

My first time trying solid perfume and I liked it! The fragrance of rose was the core ingredient used in the Solid Perfume Series, and each version comes in it's very own dainty metal case. For those unfamiliar with solid perfumes, it has a wax-like texture, which I thought resemble the vaseline. Each Solid Perfume is priced at RM39.00/5g jar.

They call themselves the home jam-maker. Michelle's Artisan Fruit Spreads are made from all natural ingredients, all fruit and with no artificial additives.

It's hard not to notice the lovely jars of jams and spreads, all neatly displayed when I walked pass. There were plenty of unique flavors available, including Papaya & Orange Peels (RM9/15/22), Banana & Vanilla Bean, Banana & Dark Chocolate and a handmade of other variants. The seasonal variants which caught my eye was the Peanut Butter & Chia Seed (RM16.00) and Almond Nut & Chia Seed (RM30.00) flavors. I can have this everyday!

Sucree By Preeta specialises in modern and traditional French pastries and cakes.

Beautiful French pastries with localized flavors, what's not to love? I'm always on the lookout for fancy desserts, mostly for birthdays and celebrations, especially individually prepared ones (a whole cake are just too much to go around nowadays). Sucree By Preeta have got some pretty interesting cupcake flavors, one being the Pistachio Cupcake (RM5.00/piece) and the Durian Pandan Shortcake.

SoSizzles sells halal homemade artisanal sausages and sliders.

Something a little different to tickle my Malaysian tastebud, I tried the Chicken Satay Slider (RM10.00), that came with a chicken burger patty, topped with crunchy satay sauce and onions, layered between two nasi impit. Eat it while it's still hot!

Apart from the list above, there were also a handful of really interesting stalls that I stumbled upon that afternoon. Here're the highlights.

Pulled Pork Burger from Tony's Cooking.
Bottled Cold Brew Tea from TEHs.
Wooden plates for kids from Jenox Kids.
Pastries and cakes from Uli By Jeolitreats.
Homemade Nyonya Sauces from Homemade 2U.
Homemade cakes and macaroons from 6th Street Desserts.
You know where to order your homamde macaroons now! RM3.50 for one.

For lunch, I had the Chicken Satay Slider (RM10.00) from SoSizzles, Pulled Pork Burger (RM15.00) from Tony's Cooking, Apple Strudle (RM12.00) from Uli By Jeolitreats and Lychee Kefir (RM10.00) from Amrita's Kefir.

Good food, great company, while being entertained by Malaysian band, Jumero.

That afternoon, I spend a good few hours just strolling around, talking to people and eating too of course.

The one thing I really liked about going to food markets like these, was that most vendors were genuinely friendly and more than willing to share. Needless to say, I think I picked up a tip or two that afternoon.

Before I end, I've also included the list and links of all participating vendors below. The vendor list gets updated as time goes, so there's always something new to look forward to in every Mapple Food Market event.

Thank you Mapple Food Market for having me.
