The Barn @ 1 Mont Kiara KL - Some Hits Some Misses.

It was a warm afternoon when I decided to drop by The Barn for lunch with a few friends. I skipped breakfast that morning and hence, felt extremely ravenous by noon and was very eager to eat.

The Barn recently rolled out a new menu, introducing some new asian flavors into a mainly Western menu previously.

It was not easy to pick a place to sit when photography needs prevailed over the comfort of dining. In the end, I decided with a table next to the window. Now, let's eat.

A bottle of red to complement our meat-heavy feast.
What a pork-tastic way to kickstart our meal! The Crispy Pork Belly (Rm29) was not only good-looking, but also succulent and flavorsome on every bite-full. The best part of all - the crunchy crackling skin. Must have!
I really liked the idea of having Scallops Wrapped In Bacon (Rm37) and these were very nicely done, though I wasn't huge on the passion fruit sauce that came with it. I thought the sourness of the sauce did not compliment the saltiness of the bacon.
The BARN Mini Open-faced Sandwiches (Rm19) was nice to look at but tasted otherwise.
The spoons of baguette, mushroom, asparagus and quail egg - tasted very bland. I wasn't tempted to pick up another spoon full. A dollop of chutney maybe?
A new addition in their menu - Fried Noodle Hokkien Style (Rm27).
The Seafood Pizza (Rm35) came laden with basil sauce instead of the usual tomato sauce base. I thought the overall pizza was seriously lacking in seasoning and flavors, the seafood felt frozen and the pizza base didn't have the crispness I was looking forward to.
I was ecstatic as soon as I found out that Oven Roasted Baby Back Pork Ribs (Rm59) was in the menu!
The huge rack of pork ribs was nicely grilled and beautifully glazed in a glistening layer of barbecue sauce. It had toothsome textures and enjoyable on every mouthful. At the side, roasted potatoes and fresh greens.
The BARN's Texan Beef Ribs (Rm78) was served char-broiled in special barbecue sauce. The massive chunk of beef had firmer textures compared to the former - as expected - and was also pleasant overall.
This is possibly one of the strangest looking Chocolate Volcano (Rm29) I've had. One look and I thought - this don't look right. Why is the color and texture like that? Frozen? Or recipe gone wrong? Pardon my curiosity. On hindsight, it could've seriously done with more color and fluff. We didn't finish this.
Thankfully, the Deep Fried Banana With Gula Melaka Syrup (Rm19) saved the day. The dessert was delectable - nicely crumbed and battered, complimented with a scoop of haagen dazs vanilla ice cream at the side.

Overall Rating: 6/10. Like the title suggests, there were some hits and misses in today's meal. The Hits: Crispy Pork Belly, Pork Ribs and Deep Fried Banana. There will be two new branches opening soon, one in Gurney Plaza Penang (April) and the other in Pavilion (July).
