Mario And Luigi @ Lorong Kurau Bangsar KL - Sorry I No Like.

I have always been quite fond and unmistakably a big fan of the intriguing list of restaurants under The Big Group. Be it Bakar, Ben's, Plan B and the likes.

Having said that, my recent visit to Mario & Luigi, an Italian Restaurant, and also one of their newest addition to the list, was nothing more than a grim disappointment. To be honest, it wasn't bad at all, but I seriously expecting more.

Let's start with my exceedingly overpriced spaghetti shall we?

Mario And Luigi Menu And Prices Here.

We came to celebrate Carol's birthday.
The basket of complimentary breads were marvelous, served warm and perfectly crusted.
The Burrata (Rm29) came with plops of light and fluffy burrata (one of my classic favorite cheeses after halloumi), Japanese hierloom tomatoes cut in halves, drizzled with aged balsamic.
The Capellini (Rm58) was a darling to devour - good but not great. The capellini was done al dente, with shreds of crab meat and prawns, in a sauce base that was enhanced with white wine. I thought it tasted a little too herbed and light in terms of flavors and could really do with a bit more richness. Instagram tells me that there is also a similar cold version of this dish, served as an appetizer. That one looked much more photography worthy.
Have you ever suffer from dish regret? I did, with this Spaghetti (Rm88). I was told to fused the sea urchin and the spaghetti together for boosted flavors - but no, it didn't do much help. The crab bisque on a light tomato sauce based simply didn't have that deep sweetness that I was really looking forward to. Instead, the dish tasted very flat overall.
We all agreed that the Panna Cotta (Rm28) was probably one of the best choice we made that evening. This was a wonderful dessert. It came with a spoon of one of the best strawberry sorbet I've had, strawberries and granola, on a delicate serving of panna cotta beneath.
Mario Bambino (Rm45).
Amaretto Grape Sour (Rm40).
Godfather (Rm48).

We all had a round of cocktails after our our meal, upstairs at the cozy bar. I wasn't a fan of the cocktails here however. Maybe it was the rather disenchanting concoctions or perhaps the lack of liquor in my Amaretto Grape Sour that caused me to lose interest.

Overall Rating: 6/10. Despite my less than pleasurable meal that evening, I would still recommend the Capellini and the Panna Cotta. If I were you, for dessert, I would hop over to Bakar for their amazing Charcoal Pavlova. After all of that, was my meal penny worthy? Nah. Bakar still win hands down.
