Top 5 Popular Cafes To Visit In Taman Desa KL

Going off course from my prevailing food radar, I cruised to Taman Desa and Old Klang Road over the last couple of weekends, and visited a handful of cafes in the area - some new, some not so new.

With a dedicated masterlist in mind, my food adventure began with Jemi Cafe, then BreadFruits, followed by Wild Sheep Chase and finally Ficelle Boulangerie & Patisserie. I also managed to grab some beautiful pastries from Le Pont Boulangerie, Old Klang Road, not far off from Taman Desa.

Here's my compilation.

Jemi Cafe: Must Try The Squid Waffle!

The newest kid on the block, Jemi Cafe opened its doors barely 3 months back, serving an assortment of sweet and savory waffles, alongside some pasta and light eats.

The best thing about this cafe - it's gorgeous and affordable waffles. There's nothing more visually appealing than having a pink macaroon plopped on every waffle, or fried squid and waffle on a plate stacked high.

Waffle lovers, you'd have to pay this cafe a visit.

Standing tall, this Squid Waffle (Rm15.90) have to be one of my all time favorite, hands down. Crunchy squid tentacles with perfectly toasted waffles in between. Best eaten with the homemade white sauce at the side.
The best part of this Sweet Potato Lovers Waffle (Rm15.90) would be the pieces of honeycomb on top - addictive like that. The sweet potato on the other hand, had great creamy textures but probably needed a tinge of added flavor.
Berry Berry Golden Cube (Rm15.90) came decorated with a splashes of berries, coconut shreds and nuts, and vanilla ice cream. If you're looking for something that has a sour twang to it, this would fit your tastebuds well.
Energizer (Rm9.90). Citron Smoothie. Flat White (Rm8.90).

Overall Rating: 7.5/10. Gorgeous waffles that had a great crunch to it - not too milky and leaves a nice toasted and aromatic aftertaste. Judging from the overall crowd that afternoon, I reckoned Jemi Cafe would do well among neighbourhood peeps. Remember to try the Squid Waffle!

Wild Sheep Chase: Must Try The Vanilla Souffle.

Finally! I got around to visiting one of the most popular dessert hotspot in town! Hoorah!

Wild Sheep Chase is famed for its souffle - that's an understatement - amazing souffles. Apart from the wonderfully done vanilla flavored souffle below, there's an array of other flavors, including waffles, molten cakes and sandwiches in their tiny menu.

Oh, did I mention that the cafe have great natural lighting for photographs too?

The Vanilla Souffle (Rm17) was amazing - fantastic textures and flavors. The souffle had a thin crisp layer on top, nicely fluffed and moist middle, topped with icing sugar dusting. I really liked that it was visibly laced with sugar crumbs, which gave it a nice overall texture. To go with it, I chose the osmanthus maple syrup. It also came with a tiny scoop of grapefruit sorbet. What a clever combination!
The Earl Grey Milk Tea (Rm10) was not only pretty to look at but also had an incredible slurp. Well balanced milk and tea flavors, that came beautifully froth with honey swirls and lemon zest.
But in this scorching weather, I would opt for this Iced Earl Grey Milk Tea (Rm12)

Overall Rating: 8/10. The best souffle in town? Yes! Pricey, but worth every penny.

Wild Sheep Chase is located at:
Address: 6-1, First Floor, Jalan 1/109E, Desa Business Park, Off Old Klang Road, Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur.

BreadFruits Cafe: Must Try The 7-Minute Brunch Pasta.

On the same weekend, I visited Breadfruits Cafe, Taman Desa, straying far away from it's first and more popular outlet, at Sri Hartamas. Kickstarting my day with some fresh and fruitful breakfast goodies.

The Brunch Pasta With 7 Minute Egg (Rm20.80) was creamy but not too rich, intertwined with juicy sauteed mushrooms, savory bacon bits and rocket leaves.
The Smoked Salmon Breakfast Platter (Rm24.80) was a medley of colorful and fresh flavors on a plate. There's avocado in it too!
Tucked inside the Chicken Avocado Rocket (Rm20.90), grilled chicken breast, avocado, rocket.
Passionfruit & Wild Honey (Rm10.90). Orange Juice (Part of set). Energizer Juice (Rm10.90).
Coffee (Part of set).

Overall Rating: 7/10. The Brunch Pasta was delicious. But to be honest, the crowd pleasing 7-minute egg didn't exactly wow-ed me. Having said that, if you're looking for a cafe which uses nutritious ingredients yet fulfilling taste wise, BreadFruits would be for you. I will be back to sample their dinner menu.

BreadFruits is located at:
Address: G13, G Podium Faber Tower 1 (Jalan Desa Bahagia), 58100, Taman Desa, KL.
Phone: 03-7497 6915
Opening Hours: 8.30am - 9pm Daily.

Ficelle: The Largest Pavlova Yet.

Popping by Ficelle was largely unplanned.

I first stopped by Le Lapin Cafe, wanting to have a dose of scones and iced coffee for tea. However to much disappointment, the kitchen was already closed. I then decided to visit the newly opened Kepochi. But a glanced at the menu and I thought it wasn't as enticing as I thought, so I left.

After roaming about and deciding on what to have, I finally settled for this French bakery, Ficelle Boulangerie & Patisserie. One look at the gigantic pavlova - it was too tempting not to order.

Pavlova (Rm8). A shell of sweet meringue hamburgered with cream and mixed fruits. Thankfully, the whisked cream fillings weren't too cloying, which balanced out the sweetness from the meringue.

Overall Rating: 7/10. You wouldn't be able to finish the pavlova on your own - please share. Despite the sweet treat, there weren't anything else in store which excites me. Revisiting didn't felt necessary.

Ficelle is located at:
Address:  11-0-12, Danau Business Center, Jalan 3/109f, Taman Danau Desa, 58100 Kuala Lumpur.
Phone:  03 - 7983 0211
Opening Hours: 8am - 9pm Daily.

Le Pont Boulangerie: Must Try The Pastries.

It's not hard to spot Le Pont Boulangerie from afar. Spanning three storeys tall, you'd not only get your usual pastries takeaway here, but also a cozy and comfortable space to dine in. The black, white and brown interior felt welcoming and on the mark, just in time for some high tea treats.

The much talked about fancy-pancy Sandwich Combo (Rm25.90) that has been circulating on social media. Four types of bite sized sandwiches on the board - seaweed and tuna egg, smoked salmon, beef slices, cheese and cucumber, on a crisp millie feuille. Served alongside fries and salad. My favorite? Smoked salmon!
A buttery Croissant Ice Cream Sandwich (Rm12.90) with three scoops of ice cream - chocolate, vanilla and pistachio, topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of crystallized pistachio.
Almost every table in the house ordered the Le Pont Waffles (Rm11.90). Toasted waffles with ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and mixed berries marmalade. My least favorite of the day however.
Hot Chocolate. Earl Grey & Lavender Tea (Rm8.90).

Overall Rating: 8/10. Gorgeous settings, excellent service and fantastic food. A sweet finish for an afternoon tea break.
