M1Star Cafe @ Damansara Uptown PJ - Japanese Western Delights.

A laidback and inviting Saturday lunch feast consisting of Seafood Donburi and Butter Garlic Creme Chicken!

It was one of those lazy Saturday mornings, where sleeping-in felt obligatory. I reluctantly dragged myself out of bed, got dressed and went out for an earlier-than-usual lunch.

Not long after, I found myself seated smacked at the center of M1Star Cafe, against a backdrop of casual white and brown restaurant outfit, which candidly reflects the type of food served here - simple, no frills and more importantly, delicious.

M1Star Cafe is the sister outlet of the famed One Star Cafe in Malacca, spearheaded by a Michelin Star chef. The menu here shares similar concept to that of its original outlet and hence, a splendid showcase of Japanese and Western recipes.

So was this meal worth waking up for?

Japanese diehards, you'd have to try the Seafood Donburi (Rm20.90). It was delicious! It came with rice underneath and neatly arranged with an assortment of seafood on an egg - prawns, squid, crabmeat sticks, enoki and vegetables. For me, the multi-layer of Japanese sauces stood out - don sauce beneath and teriyaki glaze on top, which added a tasty twang to the overall dish.
The Salmon Butter Garlic Teriyaki (Rm16.90) was a simple dish that gleamed with freshness. While the fish was slightly overcooked, the teriyaki sauce came generously littered with fragrant chopped garlic, giving the dish a flavorsome boost. Served with steamed vegetables, side salad and rice.
The Roasted Tomato Sauce Chicken (Rm18.90) felt massive. The quarter chicken was cooked to tender, in a hearty pool of fresh tomato and vegetable sauce. Even with all that's going on on the plate, we still managed to pull through, polishing everything up, including the coleslaw.
Save the best for last! The Butter Garlic Creme Chicken (Rm15.90) was marvelous! Doused in possibly one of the best butter garlic creme I've had! Marinated with secret spices and a pinch of sugar, the chicken chop had hints of sweetness to it. The butter garlic creme on the other hand was not too rich and savory on its own. Eaten all together, it was sweet and savory, crispy yet buttery. Must have!
Ice Teas to wash everything down afterwards.

Overall Rating: 7/10. The Japanese dishes are served on black plates and the Western dishes are decked in white ones. I had a pleasant and enjoyable meal here today. The Butter Garlic Creme Chicken especially - you have to try that. What I thought they did exceedingly well was the clever concoction of sauces. Everything from the butter garlic creme to the coleslaw dressing were fantastic. I have to admit though, the interior and exterior washes of brown-and-white weren't exactly an appetite booster. A cozier setting perhaps?
