SoftCore Cafe @ Bandar Sunway - Molten Lava Cake? Hmmm.

I had a purpose that weekend - to search for a new cafe, a photogenic one, which decks out some pleasant-tasting quick bites.

Soft Core

SoftCore was perfect. The cafe was empty when I walked in that evening - fantastic, at least I didn't have to feel ackward posing for a series of self portraits, for a campaign which you'll read about in this blog soon.

On a side note, the place is very new, at barely a month old. I first caught the molten-bug when I got tagged on instagram by one of my friends. Thereupon their request, I made an effort to drop by SoftCore today.

On a flip side, I'm not a huge fan of desserts - chocolate or non-chocolate. I would, in most cases, order something savory at the side to balance out the overall sweetness. So, was their signature Molten Lava Cake any good?

SoftCore Menu and Prices.

Menu and Prices

Rose Tea. Rm12.

XXL Popcorn Chicken. Rm18.

Unlike most dried chicken chunks I've had in the past, this was surprisingly delicious - very juicy and nicely done. The curry leaves didn't add flavors to the dish however, a sprinkle of spice perhaps?

 Salted Caramel Molten Lava. Rm15.

The plating was beautiful; the lava oozed; the ice cream complimented. The biggest letdown however was the molten cake texture - this needs to go into the oven and not the microwave. Even if it wasn't, it tasted like one. Though the latter works much faster, I still think that in this case - quality could do better justice than time.

Overall Rating: 7/10. Despite the molten lava cake being their signature dish, I didn't quite enjoy it. Though I have to give them benefit of the doubt, they're still new and there's space for improvements. Having said that, the popcorn chicken that I had was very nicely done. Prices are affordable also, with most dishes priced under 20 bucks. I may return to resample their molten lava cake in a couple of months time, hopefully with a slight tweak in recipe by then.

  1. Kind of shows how much you know about food. Molten cakes texture are supposed to have slight crisp on the outside. Also, nobody would promote a half melted picture. I wonder how long you've spent taking that picture. Lol no wonder it isn't up to your expectation after leaving it there for such a long time.

    1. Molten cakes aren't wine, it does not need to be aired. :-)

    2. Like you said, molten cakes are suppose to be slightly crisp on the outside - these didn't have any crispness whatsoever, hence, adding to my mention on the letdown in terms of texture.

I'm merely sharing my honest experience and constructive feedback of dining there. This review is not by any means affiliated or an obligation to promote the restaurant.
