Sozo @ Sunway Giza Mall - Japanese A La Carte Buffet In PJ

Gentle note to myself: Cut down on wordings for writeups with loads of photographs.

Sozo Japanese Restaurant

For those who do not yet know - for an a la carte buffet, you'd get to pick from unlimited servings of anything and everything from the menu, throughout the entire buffet timeframe. Dishes will only be prepared and served upon ordering. Gone were the days where large quantities of food were cooked and left-to-chill on boring buffet counters, I never liked those.

Prices of Sozo Japanese Restaurant A la Carte Buffet:

Weekday
Lunch (12pm-2pm): Rm42++
Dinner (6pm-8pm): Rm48++

Weekend
Lunch (12pm-2pm) & Dinner (6pm-8pm): Rm60++

Though individual prices does not matter here, I will still include it in this review, just to show you how value for money this a la carte buffet really is. The restaurant is non-halal.

On a side note, I don't particularly fancy sashimi of any sort, perhaps I have yet to stumbled upon one that was memorable enough to change my stubborn raw-buds. Nevertheless, that evening, I sampled a spread of delectable raw fish and plenty of sushi rolls and Japanese delicacies to add.

Sashimi Moriawase. Rm59.90.

Zaru Soba. Rm18.80.

Katsu Curry Don. Rm20.

Hamachi Kabuto. Rm28.90.

Fresh Oyster. Rm4.90/each.

Oyster Aburi Carpaccio. Rm12.90.

Ika Butter Yaki (Rm26). Ebi Chili (Rm22).

Mango Soft Shell Crab Salad. Rm19.90.

Chili Scallop. Rm19.90.

Tonkatsu. Rm18.

Yasai Tempura. Rm13.90.

Ebi Tempura Tama. Rm18.90.

Kakuni (Rm17.90). Unagi Tofu (Rm13.90).

Potato Salad (Rm5). Kaki Fry (Rm15.90).

Gyoza. Rm11.90.

Rainbow Carpaccio (Rm15.90). Hamachi Aburi Carpaccio (Rm19.90).

Assorted Sushi Rolls.

Overall Rating: 7/10. If you feel like packing in a whole tank of Japanese food, Sozo would do you well - but if you're a small-eater merely wanting to sample, I would suggest some place else that serves finer Japanese food, and not in bulk. I really enjoyed the fresh oysters, sashimi platter, hamachi kabuto, chili scallops and the unagi rolls, but wasn't a fan of the oyster carpaccio, unagi tofu, chili spider roll and chili prawns - those were extremely fishy. The rest of the dishes that we sampled were plesant though nothing to shout about. As far as I know, there is no surcharge on unfinished food. For feasts like these, my inner kiasuness reigns. Who's the same?
