Senjyu @ Bangsar Village II - Amazing Flavors!

It has been awhile since I've last had a Japanese meal that I enjoyed so much. Here - you'd be expecting a feast that flows along the lines of a fine dining experience.

Senjyu Japanese Restaurant

The menu at Senjyu, pronounced as Senju, consists of premium Japanese cuisine with a touch of elegance and modern creativity. The restaurant offers an array of freshest and finest air flown ingredients - which I will be reviewing shortly - an eclectic selection of exquisite liquor, and even a private Omakase dining experience.

There are two Senjyu outlets to date - one in Bangsar and the other in The Curve. Needless to say, I was all set for a scrumptious Japanese feast that lovely evening.

Complimentary Appetizer.

Oyster Sashimi. Rm17.99 (piece). Rm87.99 (1/2 dozen).

Amazing - amazing briny air-flown live oysters! Have it with a dash of soy sauce and a splash of lemon! The oysters had great textures - exquisitely moist and very fresh. Being one of Senjyu's signature dish, each and every single oyster is individually inspected by the Head chef before being served. Some really premium stuff here!

Hana Moriawase. Rm47.99.

My streak of amazing-eats continues with a tantalizing sashimi platter - raw tuna, salmon, surf clam, octopus, butterfish sashimi. And again - delectable, fresh and bouncy on every mouthful.

Kaki Roll. Rm22.99.

An unexpected dish that I surprisingly enjoyed. The kaki roll had a distinct savory oyster taste and the mushrooms added a nice chewy and almost gooey-like texture to the overall egg omelette. Definitely one of my top picks!

Butterfly Maki. Rm59.99.

Premium river eel slices, glazed with thick and sweetened sauce, wrapped around a tempura crab stick sushi roll.

Soft shell kani and Unagi Mentai Maki. Rm29.99.

A cleverly arranged combo of crispy soft shell crab and eel slathered with creamy codfish roe sauce. I really enjoyed the cod fish roe sauce (mentai) - it had an addictive smoky flavor to it.

Yasai Maki. Rm17.99.

Fresh vegetables and sweet bean curd wrapped in lettuce. This reminded me of a popiah. Not an exciting wrap-up nonetheless.

Garlic Fried Rice. Rm15.99.

Definitely not your cheapest bowl of garlic fried rice, but this was quite good. It had a mix of salmon slices and squid. The grains of fragrant rice were sticky yet flavorsome. Any rice-lover would be enthralled.

Red Bean soup with Japanese Rice Cakes. Rm7.99.

Thick red bean soup and Japanese rice cakes with black sesame fillings served hot. It was rich and filling no doubt, but I had a tough time finishing this towards the end of a hefty meal.

Overall Rating: 8/10. I had great expectations of my meal and was not disapointed. This was one memorable dining experience. The oysters were amazing; the sashimi fantastic; the kaki roll addictive; the soft shell kani and unagi mentai maki was delectable. More than a week had passed and I can still recall the tantalizing flavors of some of the dishes I had that evening. I would definitely recommend Senjyu if you are on the lookout for a slightly higher end Japanese restaurant. On that note, the restaurant is pork free but serves alcohol.
