Peruvie Peruvian Grilled Chicken @ TTDI KL - A Contender To Nandos?

This is my second visit to Peruvie. My first visit - I walked out with an empty stomach, frustrated. Trying my hardest to readjust expectations of my visit here today. Nevertheless, let's not dwell too much about the unhappy things. Moving on to the review.

Peruvie Peruvian Grilled Chicken

Stepping foot into Peruvie, I was greeted with a colorfully cheery restaurant. The place reminded me of those tiny Latin american neighborhood restaurant, tucked in a quiet corner somewhere, but bustling with folk music, gleeful eaters and jolly dancers. A little cluttered and mismatched perhaps but definitely an inviting atmosphere.

I arrived at a quarter pass noon and was greeted by the scent of sweet-smelling aroma, probably from the sweet basting and charred chicken bits - oh it was undeniably appetizing.

Peruvie is like another-Nando's, with grilled chicken as their specialty. Obviously not as mainstream, but I've been told that after Peruvie - you wouldn't go back to Nando's.

Spicy Peruvie Chicken with 2 sidelines. Rm16.90.

Overall Rating: 7/10. Having only two types of sauces to choose from - it must stand out. The original version that I had was really good. It was more sweet than salty and had a nice twang to it. In fact, if I were to compare between Peruvie and Nando's, Peruvie's sauces lean towards the sweet side whereas Nando's the salty side. Size wise - ah well - Nando's could've been an inch larger. Notwithstanding, the spicy version was no doubt fiery, but the sauce hit the right spots and was flavorsome. My friend was raving about the grilled chicken throughout the meal and even requested for additional sauces. That said, I thought both chickens came a bit too charred, burnt even. Was it meant to be? or was I just plain unlucky?

All in all, the meal was a good one, if only - the service was better. Eye contact and smiles were scarce and the bill took awhile to arrive. So, if you'd ask me if I'd return to Peruvie's standalone branch in TTDI, perhaps - only if I'm around the area. Else, the more convenient Nando's would always be my preferred default.

  2. I still prefer Nando's even though my boyfriend loves this place. It wasn't just your chicken, but mine came too charred on the two times that I visited! I think that's just the style or something. Not a huge fan of the sweet spicy sauce either. Give me Nando's any day!
