Bankara Ramen @ Avenue K KL - Never To Return

Disclaimer: I'm not a huge fan of Ramen. The reason of my visit was primarily because of the fact that I'm running out of ideas on new places to have lunch, within the vicinity of my work place of course. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with what Bankara Ramen had to offer.

Bankara Ramen

There are two Ramen restaurants in Avenue K. This one, and Marutama Ramen - touted by many to serve the best Ramen in town. I sampled their legendary dish late last year when it was still located at Fahrenheit 88. It has since shifted to Avenue K earlier this year.

Back to Bankara Ramen. I was there slightly pass 12.30pm. At that point in time, there was no queue outside but a steady stream of white collared patrons ensued halfway through my meal.

Bankara. Rm21.

Bankara is their original ramen. At first glance, I was very disappointed to see the scrimping portion of only one thinly sliced chashu. I really should've added an egg at the side. The bowl of tonkatsu broth ramen came with the standard sides - finely chopped green onions and a sheet of toasted seaweed.

Bankara Asari. Rm21.

Like most tonkatsu broth, it would typically lean towards the savory side, and I'm not a huge fan of that. Thus, I ordered this - a slightly milder version of Bankara. The broth was lighter, as expected, but it tasted really flat. Like the former, it didn't have that burst of flavors that I was longing for. The noodles also came a little soggy too.

Miso. Rm23.

Once the miso was placed on the table, I almost gasped at the abundance of bean sprouts piled high. My friend started scooping almost all of it aside, together with the thick layer of oil idle on the broth. Withal, I picked and wobbled up some of the beansprouts and thought it tasted fairly crunchy and fresh.

Tonkotsu. Rm27.

A friend ordered the tonkotsu ramen - creamy and rich pork bone broth laden with the usual condiments, together with an egg and braised bamboo shoot, which she ordered at the side.

Overall Rating: 5/10. Lunch wasn't that great and unequivocally fused by my lack of interest in the ramen arena. Nevertheless, I highly doubt a revisit anytime soon.
