The Red Bean Bag @ Publika Solaris Dutamas KL - Still My Favorite Cafe In Town

When I say you can rarely go wrong at the Red Bean Bag - I mean it!

A typical Sunday morning at RBB.

This breakfast hotspot springs to life, sprawling with crowds of hungry patrons, anxiously waiting in line for an empty table. A norm in many breakfast and brunch cafes in town nowadays.

RBB used to be one of my regular haunts for brunch when it first opened. Over the years, as my to-eat list got longer, the urge to try new places got the best of me.

Now that I'm back, glaring at its menu, I noticed that it has been markedly enhanced, coupled with a significant markup in prices. The crowd didn't seemed to mind one bit though. Likewise, as long as the food is great, I would've no qualms forking out a couple of dollars more.

Read my previous review on RBB Here. The food pictures still makes me drool.

Latte. Rm9.

Macchiato. Rm8.

Cappuccino. Rm9.

The hand is not mine - my fingers are much more slender. The cappuccino is mine though.

I grinned widely on my first sip. That's how a good cup of warm and light bodied coffee make me feel - at ease and with joy. What a great way to start my meal!

Passion fruit Orange Yogurt. Rm6.

The Atlantic. Rm22.

The great Eggs Atlantic came with fluffy French toast and smoked salmon, perfectly poached eggs glazed with a thick blanket of hollandaise sauce, topped with salmon pearls that popped with every delicate bite.

You get the best of two worlds with this order - one had sautéed mushroom fillings; the other had seasoned baby spinach in it. Contrasting flavours, yet equally scrumptious and beautifully presented.

The Benedict. Rm20.

The Benedict is served the same way as the former. Sitting proudly yet starkly on the plate - the beef bacon was chewy and savoury; the French toast were sweet and crisp.

If you're a fan of sweet-salty combos, this would be a magnificent treat.

Bella and The Jets. Rm22.

A tangled mess you'd say - but a delicious one I assure you. A mix of ingredients that exude harmonious flavours.

Pan fried Portobello mushrooms, roasted chicken chorizos, poached egg, baby rocket leaves piled high, sprinkled with grated parmigiana reggiano (parmesan cheese), laid neatly on a crusty multigrain toast, and soaked in a shallow pool of sweet aged balsamic reduction.

The rocket leaves added a colourful contrast to the dish, but I'd prefer mine with lettuce or some other greens.

Sumo. Rm22.

Pan fried homecured salmon steak on a crisp potato rosti, wilted Australian spinach topped with a gooey poached egg and seaweed hollandaise sauce.

The somewhat overcooked salmon steak was the only thing I wanted to shamelessly tweak. Apart from that, the combination cuts through. It looked spectacular and tasted pretty good.

We strolled around Publika after our meal. We witness a lion dance performance by a clan of really young troop, followd by an angpau giveaway session by the choi san yeh. It made me wonder - how much or what's in the angpau. Kangkung? #enufofthekangkungjokealready

Overall Rating: 8.5/10. If there's one thing I'd subconciously noticed in RBB's 'dark side' menu, it would have to be the use of poached eggs - it's literally in every single dish we ordered that day! The breakfast dishes itself may not look very big, but it's easily the most satisfying breakfast I've had in awhile.
