Leonardo's @ Jalan Bangkung Bangsar KL

It was a friend's birthday. So, as a food blogger, I'm always obliged to pick out a suitable restaurant, confirm headcount and reservations, and on top of that, ensure that food served fits everyone's taste buds.

Foodies, do you get that a lot?

Leonardo's Dining Room & Wine Loft

Leonardo's have always been on my To-Eat list. But, of the numerous times I was keen to visit, and attempted to make reservations - it's always fully booked.

Perhaps I should've made bookings a week prior, but an intimate dinner of 4 did not render me to do much pre-planning. There is after all, a row of restaurants to choose from along Jalan Bangkung.

Still remember the time I had a RM200 slab of Wagyu at Opus Bistro?

Despite not having a booking, we tried our luck and made our way to Leonardo's last Saturday evening. Maybe it was the Birthday-Girl's-Luck, we snagged the last sofa seat available. I was extremely famished and was obviously eager to sample by then.

With the Birthday-Girl.

Like most eateries in the area, Leonardo's is the kind of Italian Restaurant which exude a romantic vibe in an intimate dining ambience. Where candle-light dinners and small gatherings over a bottle of red are a norm.

Dark wood, warm lightings, bare brick walls and of course, the essential white table cloths. I definitely felt at ease throughout my meal.

Cabernet Souvignon. Rm190+.

Grilled Pork Tenderloin. Rm47.

A roll of tender pork tenderloin, wrapped in chewy bacon, in a whirl of garlic au jus, with a serving of mashed potato and vegetables at the side.

Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Scallops. Rm35.

Spaghetti infused in garlic and white wine cooked al dente, sprinkles of parsley and chilli padi, juicy cherry tomatoes, and of course - 4 large juicy scallops.

I had fun twirling the strands of spaghetti, devouring it ever so hungrily. My friends thought it was a hint too spicy, but I thought otherwise - it was just nice.

Mama Mia Pizza. Rm35.

A dish which came highly recommended by Leonardo's.

Slices of Jamon Serrano (dry-cured Spanish pork ham) delicately arranged on a crunchy pizza base then topped with a layer of gooey cheese. The thin slices of pork ham was crisp, chewy and savoury, but the pizza had a touch too much butter on top.

Chocolate Volcano. Rm28.

The Birthday Girl was raving on how good this is on every bite.

Despite looking a little sunk-in when served, the dessert was magnificent. The cake was mildly crusty outside but extremely moist inside. The scoop of of Haagen Das ice cream complimented the dessert great! That said, comparing this with the Chocolate lava cake at Opus Bistro - that one does better.

Overall Rating: 8/10. Ambience was inviting and Food was great. The kind of place for special occasions or a romantic dine-out. Next up - Cava!
