Ramadhan Buffet 2013 @ JW Marriott KL

It was a Monday evening - the day where blues were at its peak.

I contemplated for a good afternoon on whether or not I should drop by for this review or well - bail and sleep the rest of my wholesome Monday night-off.

I guess the thought of food got the best of me - again. I managed to drag my then lazy feet to the center of KL and got to JW Marriott at a little pass 6.30pm - it was a Monday evening after all.

Obviously this picture is not taken at Marriott, but since many of you have been complaining that I've not been posting pictures of myself often enough - nahhh.

This year's Ramadhan theme for JW Marriott saw a come back in its long standing tradition of serving nenek's traditional recipes and dishes, leaning towards preserving the convivial heritage of the Malay kampung celebration with 138 authentic and mouthwatering recipes - pass-down from the grandmothers of chefs and also creatively crafted by the chef's themselves, of course I was eager to taste.

The buffet spread was showcased alongside traditional rustic wooden gerai's.

Along with kompang performance as entertainment for the night.

As usual, I got there early and had fun exploring the buffet. Luckily, no one paid much attention to me as I took snapshots, one after another, before the crowd was ushered in.

Grilled Lamb - I've always enjoyed watching the grilling process, on a spit grill, over charcoal burned fire.

There was also a line-up of other BBQ-ed foods, satay and an assortment of ikan panggang.

I couldn't help but salivate when the distinctive burning aroma of charred satay started fuming around the area when I took this picture - gosh, I was starving.

My all time favourite, the Satay - still remains as one of the best I've tasted. I once had 30 sticks on one seating, but that was 2 years back nonetheless.

An assortment of authentic Malay dishes were seen spewed across the gerai's, from hearty kampong dishes and soup stations to traditional salad and fruit rojak; not missing out on the dessert spread as well.

 Daging Masak Kima

  Tempe Goreng Bercili
Daging salai masak lemak dengan bachang
Paru goreng berlada

Tongkeng goreng tepung

Ayam percik

 Terung sambal

Daging lada hitam

Sup kambing

And my half eaten bowl of bubur lambuk #heh.

There was also a Malay-style salad spread for those opting for a healthier alternative.

I love my fruit rojaks but I kind of missed this; after rounds refills I was stuffed by the time I got to the rojaks.

Not forgetting, ever sweet endings - the dessert spread.

Though not extensive, I spotted a really unique Malay dessert - one in which I've not seen before, the one below. It's essentially sweet, crunchy and reminded me of an un-crumbly eggroll.

 Bread pudding

Pengat Pisang

The beds, are mine, I mean - prefect for those wanting to take a nap after a wholesome meal. On second thoughts, maybe not.

Overall Rating: 6/10. The highlight of my meal have to be the satay - yes, I came with bias expectations towards it but I have to reiterate that it was still one of the best I've had. Unlike many others who shy away from intestines - I love my paru (lung) and Marriott's version of Paru goring berlada was delicious. I had great fun chewing away on the Daging lada hitam and Ayam percik as well.

That, pretty much sums up my meal for the night - 138 recipes sounds somewhat extensive, I would presume there was about 30 main dishes on display with the rest being sides.

JW Marriott's Ramadhan buffet is priced reasonably at Rm75++ for Poolside seating and Rm65++ at the 4th floor Starhill Conference Centre and Children age between 7-12 years get to dine at 50% off.

Starting from the 10th July 2013, the Ramadhan buffet will be served daily, from 7.00pm - 10.30pm.

Thanks for the highlights... I've been to JW Marriot Ramadhan Buffet about 3 to 4 years ago, and yes it seems to be amongst the best but cheapest a hotel could offers, still! For this year as I am celebrating Ramadhan with my Muallaf' Husband, certainly I will be going to JW Marriot KL to introduce him the muhibbah spirit amongst Malaysian during Ramadhan particularly for breaking the fast. LOL... Thanks again for the details.
