Harrods Cafe @ KLCC

I've always been quite fond of the English tea tradition. Delicately sipping English Breakfast Tea in the late afternoons, leisurely nibbling on scones with jam, muffins and crumpets - makes me feel a tad more aristocratic.

Harrods Cafe

Harrods was officially launched early 2009 in Suria KLCC and is located between Godiva and British India (still is). Harrods World Signature Shop and Tea Salon is dedicated to an impressive selection of Harrod branded signature merchandise hailing all the way from London. The store further features a stunning bar area serving beverages and modern British cuisine throughout the day and not forgetting the tranquil Tea Salon, inspired by the famous Georgian Restaurant at Harrods.

Harrods Cafe on the other hand opened its doors early 2013. Situated on the Ground floor, Suria KLCC, next to Isetan and directly facing the blue cab stands, occupies the elegantly designed, Harrods Cafe.

Upon entering Harrods cafe, you'd probably get that wonderful wow moment - like how I did - English decor and all that - but... that's about it (haha). Despite being peak hour lunch time, there weren't many occupying patrons. I have to admit that the location was not the most strategic one nevertheless.

I was seated within seconds and was probing on its menu within minutes.

Dessert range between Rm8 for a fancy cupcake to Rm23 for 6 pieces of Macaroons.

While waiting for my friends to return from the deli isle, I snoopishly glance at the tables around me, trying to comprehend what's good here. I couldn't help but notice a 70-ish year old white couple sitting right at the corner of the restaurant, having a spoonful, muttered a few words before giving an approving nod. They were having the Harrods beef burger - assuming that it's not bad, perhaps I will give that a go next time .

Nothing beats the experience of having afternoon tea at Harrods right? I was quite bitter after knowing that the ever popular scones will only be made available after three. I guess I will be missing out on that this time round.

After a couple more flips of the menu, I saunter to the deli to pick out my dessert of choice. It was obvious that the uptown deli was the centerpiece of the restaurant. One would only want to take a peak - at least - of the array of English pastries, cakes and the lots on display.

There is a designated drinks area where it carries a decent selection of wine and alcoholic beverages.

From the looks of it, the array of beverages, bottles of English jam and variety of English tea was unequivocally impressive. Granting all this, there wasn't much to the sweets selection.

Strawberry Cheesecake. Rm12.00.

We ordered this dessert upon recommendation by a friend. True to it's favorable mention, the strawberry cheesecake was a decadence. It was rich, dense and smooth in texture. The strawberry slices and strawberry sauce simply complimented each other also.

No Bake Cheesecake. Rm10.00.

Unlike the normal baked cheesecake where the texture is rich and dense, this no-bake cheesecake is lighter and can't help but mention that its texture resembles that of feta cheese. I have to admit that I wasn't very fond of this version, though it was much lighter than the former, I still kept going back to the Strawberry cheesecake. Also, the strawberry and blueberries on the side, tasted like it has been kept in the freezer for awhile.

Firecracker. Rm10.00.

This roll of spicy sausage wrapped in a layer of filo pastry was done crumbly and fluffy. The sausage was lightly spicy and mildly smoky. I wouldn't mind a dose of this after the sweet course I had earlier. Notwithstanding, I reckon its a pretty hefty price to pay for a sausage roll lookalike (or not).

English Breakfast Tea. Rm12.00.

Fresh Carrot Juice. Rm14.00.

Fresh Honeydew Juice. Rm14.00.

I was quite dissapointed with the freshly squeezed juices. It was very diluted and practically tasteless.

My friend caught me with this-serious-face while taking pictures of the cakes.

We were there for a friend's Birthday treat.

Overall Rating: 6/10. We enjoyed a leisure couple of hours in splendid surroundings and not forgetting the tentative service of designated servers. Apart from that, the desserts I had was markedly decent but for the price I paid for, I figured this will probably be a been-here-had-that kinda thing.
