Watami @ 1 Utama

I noticed that I'm kind of weighting a bit more on the scales now. Ever since I started this food blog, my curiosity to try out all sorts of food delights has further magnified itself. I should seriously consider working out and shall make this one of my 2013 new years resolution.

I have been contemplating on doing a review about Watami. It's essentially like writing about Nandos and how good the chicken is or like Sushi Zanmai, in which I have 101 pictures in my collection but can't seem to pen anything down. Common like that.

But it occured to me that since it took me awhile before I paid my first visit to this restaurant, I figured many are still quite interested to find out what Watami inherently is.

Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant

Watami has been in existence about 20 years already before making its way to Malaysian shores in 2011. The restaurant focuses on serving a higher variety of food choice in a young and lively decorated environment.

Many have thought that Watami is priced at a premium compared to other mid-tier Japanese casual dining restaurants, but I would think that prices are quite comparable to that of Rakuzen and perhaps just slightly more than Sushi Zanmai as a benchmark.

I opted for the Prosperity Set Meal.

Salmon Sashimi Don Prosperity Set. Rm26.90.

The set came with a bowl of salmon sashimi don, a plate of salmon oshizushi, salad and a drink of choice. The salmon was fresh and satisfying.

Shoyu Ramen Prosperity Set. Rm25.90.

Passion Fruit Mango Tea.

I first had a fullspoon of the broth, it was delectable and flavorful. The ramen was tangy and the chicken was pretty decent also. One of the other more enjoyable side of the dish was the egg. I'm not too sure if this is duck egg or just plain hard boil chicken egg but it was so good, the yolk practically melted in my mouth.

My prosperity set also came with a glass of Passionfruit Mango Tea, which was quite sweet and tasted a tad like marshmellows in the beggining but somehow neutralizes the savoury aftertaste of my ramen afterwards.

Ishiyaki Salmon and Tobikko Gohan Prosperity Set. Rm23.90.

When the dish arrived, I like that there was a really nice crisp and slightly burn aroma to it. Cooked in a stone pot, the rice was warm and cripsy and the salmon was fresh and just nice.

The full menu is available Here.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10 for the food, environment and prompt customer service. There is also 2 other Watami outlets located at Paradigm Mall and Pavillion respectively. I would definitely return.

Watami is located at:
1st Floor, Rainforest, 1 Utama Shopping Centre,
1 Lebuh Bandar Utama,
47800 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
