Tony Roma's Raising The Steaks @ The Curve

It's Football Season!

The 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is currently running at full speed! Four years back, I briefly recalled waking up wee hours in the morning just to watch my favorite teams play, with Brazil taking the lead of course. It's obvious who I'm vouching for this time isn't it? I'm excited, are you?

Tony Roma's

In conjunction with the football season, Tony Roma's throwing in a humongous slab of steak to go with it. Raising The Steaks they call it, and the promotion will be running from 26 May to 13 July 2014 only.

Kicking start my dinner with Romaritas = Tony Roma's + Magaritas?

There are four types of Virgin Romaritas offered in the menu - Original (Orange), Strawberry, Mango and Wild berry.

Virgin Romaritas. Rm14.90.

The Romaritas tasted fine - a little sweet perhaps but not too bad. Do avoid the Wild Berry Romarita at all costs however, those tasted like the pink cough medicine.

Fillet Medallions with Mushroom Sauce. Rm63.90.

My favorite dish of the night! The fillet medallions were delicious - effortlessly tender and unbelievably flavorsome, from the steak marination, down to the mushroom sauce poured all over.

New York Strip with Pepper Beef Bacon & Asparagus Relish. Rm63.90.

The New York strip on the other hand came very dry. Despite it being cooked to a medium rare texture, we had a tough-and-tiring time chewing. Having additional sauce at the side was a necessity.

The peppered beef bacon and asparagus relish with white balsamic glaze tasted really good on it's own, but just-alright with the steak. The mashed potato at the side was really dry as well. My least favorite dish of the bunch.

Ribeye Steak with Roasted Onion Sauce. Rm63.90.

The ribeye steak came with roasted onion sauce and a hint of lemon pepper on top. The steak was very juicy in the middle and quite fatty at the side.

However, I had to send this back to the kitchen to be flame-grilled from medium rare to well done. The earlier version came rarer than meant to be. When it came back, it definitely looked and tasted way better.

New York Strip with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce. Rm63.90.

The medium cooked steak had firm textures and decent flavors, and I thought the roasted red pepper sauce complimented the steak really well too. My second favorite after the fillet medallions.

Overall Rating: 6/10. The menu that I sampled that night was of good quality steaks, but cooking methods were rather inconsistent. My medium rare steak came far more well done than my neighbor's exact version. I also ought to add that the steak's marination probably needs a little tweaking. Apart from the fillet medallions, the rest tasted strangely bland at most times and not as flavorful as I hoped it to be. On that note, the steaks served today are not your standard sized steaks. It's well larger than your normal serving at Tony Roma's, hence the higher price tag too. Notwithstanding, based on the feedback I've gotten from my friends that night, the fillet medallion was the best of the lots, followed by the NY strip with roasted red pepper sauce - those were delicious.

And again, Raising The Steaks promotion runs from 26 May to 13 July 2014 only.
