Pleasing to the eyes and pleasurable to the palate. That, pretty much sums up my brunch at Fifth Palate.
Fifth Palate
It was 10.30am when I stumbled sleepily into Fifth Palate, one of those exceptionally rare early Saturday brunch outing. For me, brunch have always been more like lunch. Are you like that too?
Tip: Fifth Palate is not located in and around The Strand Mall, but at the opposite building where The Strand Office is. Parking at the basement level is free.
Butcher's Breakfast. Rm29.
What a colorful pan of scrumptious breakfast goodies - also one of the better breakfast medley I've had in awhile. The homemade aubergine chutney was an interesting add-on, with a distinctly sweet sambal flavor to it.
Turkish Baked Eggs. Rm19.
The pot may looked small but packed a punch. Homemade spiced aubergine with tomato sauce (uses the same base as the chutney above), chorizo sausages, egg, mozarella and toasted wholemeal rye bread. Its filling I tell you!
Peanut butter + Bacon + Forty Licks ice cream. What more can you ask for in a sweet breakfast dish? The homemade peanut butter could be a tad creamier though. The French toast also came with a drizzle of Guiness stout reduction. Not to worry, there was no bitter aftertaste.
Overall Rating: 7.5/10. We overestimated our morning appetites and ordered one too many dishes to share. I guess we were feeling greedy and wanted to try everything in the menu. Now, I wouldn't say that the food served here are drastically different compared to others elsewhere - same old. However, what I really liked about Fifth Palate - there's just something very homely and comforting about the food here, something which not many new cafes can mimick nowadays. Although the menu is small, the dishes we had were very nicely executed. I'd recommend all the dishes I sampled today.
