LUMOS FLOAT Review : The First 360° Rotatable Projector.

Many of us are redefining a home cinematic experience in present day. I can't wait to share with you my first ever LUMOS FLOAT Home Cinema Projector. Is this really a trend or is it here to stay?

Before I go into product dynamics, I just want to share that these days, many of my friends have been opting for a more minimalistic approach when it comes to setting up their home entertainment system.

Some says - its gives them more flexibility to manoeuvre things around (using only one device, from the living room to the bedroom), which ultimately leads to some form of cost-savings. Plus, its smart design also saves them space, which seems to be perfect for urban service apartments and smaller places nowadays.

Which brings me to what I'm about to share with you today - the LUMOS FLOAT 360° Home Cinema Projector.

At a glance, the LUMOS FLOAT look stylish, sturdy, and compact enough (at only 750gm) to be carried around. It is available in 3 colours - Silver, Gold and Pink. Isn't it obvious which I chose?

 

First things first, the LUMOS FLOAT is priced affordably at RM599.00 (for the basic version) and RM649.00 (for the SMART version) - which, I will be telling you more about shortly. Pair it with the RIZE PRO Stand (+RM179.00) to keep your device steady, positioned anywhere in your home.

The device comes with a 1 Year Standard Local Warranty. Extended Warranty is available from RM199.00 onwards.

The set comes with standard connectivity cables - power cable, HDMI cable (to connect laptop/game console), AV cable (to connect audio device) and a remote control. I would also like to note here that the power cable is quite short, so you'd probably need an extension cord to reach the power points at home.

Apart from the power cable, I rarely need to use any of the other cables.

With the SMART version, everything can be connected via WiFi and streamed directly from their in-built apps (ie. Youtube, Netflix, Prime, etc.) or using the Wireless Mirror Casting function, from my phone. This is especially useful if you plan to carry the device from room-to-room or even outdoors.

Let's now dive more into its features and functions. 

The LUMOS FLOAT is the first 360° rotatable home projector. You can rotate it at any angle, from the wall to the ceiling and if you'd like, even on to the floor. Meaning, you can now watch a movie either sitting, sleeping or in whatever position that is comfortable for you.

And as for me, I love watching movies while lying down on my bed, so I guess my favourite angle would be rotated towards the ceiling. Watching a movie in the dark really makes me feel like I'm in the cinema, but better, because I can press pause whenever I want.

Alternatively, you can also easily mount the projector to the wall, on their one of a kind SkyTrack system, with just 2 simple picture hanging strips. Unfortunately, the hanging strips are not included in the package, so I purchased it separately (the 3M command medium picture hanging strips 5kg works well enough to support the projector).

Speaking of which, having the projector on the wall definitely saves me some space, but if need be, I can also easily expand it to 50-inches of screen size at just 1.5-meter in distance, and can go up to 150-inches of screen size, if placed at the right position.

As for its sound quality, the LUMOS FLOAT comes with dual speakers, cinematic surround sound system, so there's no need for extra speakers; the sound quality is pretty decent on its own. However if you'd like to boost your cinematic experience further, you can also connect it to a separate speaker, either using Bluetooth or the AV cable provided.

Moving on to the projected visual clarity.

As many of you may already know, most home projectors are very sensitive to reflective light and would typically require a very dark room or a wall screen for better viewing clarity.

The LUMOS FLOAT packs an impressive 1080p support resolution, which provides a whopping 225% more clarity than the other standard projectors in the market. To top that of, it is also powered by 3,000 lumens, which means that images will not only look brighter but also more vibrant in colour.

And to keep that projected visual clarity perfectly aligned, the device also comes with built-in automatic keystone correction feature, with the option to fine-tune manually, at the exact angle that you want. For first timers however, making manual adjustments may take a while to get used to.

I also tested its projected visual clarity during the day, with half my blackout curtains open.

Obviously there is a difference during the day versus in dark, but it does not bother me as much, since I'm rarely at home at day time.

All in all, I'm very happy with the LUMOS FLOAT Home Cinema Projector, the first of its kind and also first ever for me.
